Provided environmental consultation services to a
major international pharmaceutical manufacturer.
Consultation services included an evaluation of
existing environmental compliance programs and
recommendations for improvement; environmental
staff counseling and development; preparation
of air pollution permit applications for a variety
of sources, including emergency power and fire
suppression generators/diesel engines and solvent
wipe cleaning operations; preparation of industrial
wastewater discharge permit applications; verbal
and written liaison with environmental regulatory
agencies; preparation of technical hazardous
waste determinations for a number of waste
streams; preparation of bid requirement packages
for hazardous, medical, and radiological waste
vendor services; and research of treatment and
handling options for a hazardous waste stream.
Environmental Due Diligence Audit of Biotech
Research & Manufacturing Facility
Madison, WI
Completed an environmental due diligence audit
of a biotech research and manufacturing facility,
which was providing products and technologies
for analyzing genetic variations. Objective of audit
was to determine the nature and extent of potential
chemical, environmental, and safety
legal/financial exposures associated with operations
and facilities. Objective was achieved
by assessing the environmental condition of the
facility, and evaluating chemical, environmental,
and safety regulatory compliance with respect to
applicable portions of federal, state, and local
chemical, environmental, and safety laws and
regulations. Audit consisted of interviewing facility
personnel, inspecting the facility, reviewing facility
documents, contacting environmental regulatory
agency personnel, and obtaining and reviewing
certain publicly available environmental records.
Audit was conducted over a one-week period to
meet client’s schedule.
Topics, programs, and issues audited included:
air pollution and permitting; water pollution and
permitting; hazardous waste management and
disposal; solid waste disposal; biological waste
management and disposal; hazardous material
management, permitting and reporting; regulated
chemical handling; chemical spill release notification,
response and prevention; infectious material
importation and handling; emergency response;
and facility environmental conditions.

Environmental Due Diligence Services for
Acquisition of Business Park
Foster City, CA
Completed a Phase I environmental site assessment
of an 80-acre business park with sixteen
buildings for large life sciences company. In
addition, evaluated the EH&S compliance status
of current tenants in the business park. Developed
and implemented recommendations for better
assessing the nature and extent of soil and
groundwater impacts. Prepared an executive
summary report for client’s Board of Directors,
identifying significant potential environmental
risks and liabilities associated with the transaction,
along with findings and recommendations.
Environmental, Health & Safety Services for
Medical Devices Manufacturer
Mountain View and Los Angeles, CA and
Issaquah, WA
Developed a method for collecting and analyzing
data regarding chemical throughput to enable
accurate EPCRA Section 313 TRI reporting at
multiple facilities. Provided template to enable
efficient future data collection and recognition of
chemicals used in excess of threshold quantities.
Prepared Hazardous Materials Closure Plan for
four facilities, which had used and stored flammable
materials, photo-developing chemicals,
and hazardous wastes, to comply with local
requirements. Negotiated cleanup scope with
local regulatory agency and retained cleanup
contractor to perform required work. Inspected
contractor’s work for conformation with project
scope and represented owner during inspection
by Fire Department. Inventoried all EH&S permits
and ensured all information was current. Prepared
notifications to regulatory agencies of facility
changes.
Environmental, Health & Safety Audit of
Biotech Research & Manufacturing Facility
Foster City, CA
Teamed with another environmental consulting
company to complete an extensive EH&S audit
of a multi-building biotech manufacturing and
research facility. Audit scope included a review of
research laboratory, production operations, and
air and water emissions; facility environmental,
health and safety permit and compliance documentation;
and chemical, biological, and radiological
substance handling, storage, and disposal.
Operations and documentation were reviewed in
light of local, state, and federal EH&S laws and
regulations. Perpared written audit report for the
client, which identified and prioritized non-compliance
issues, risks, and corrective action alternatives
with associated costs. Verbally presented
highlights of report to client. |
